Need Help Identifying Vintage Binoculars

Hi there; I recently received a pair of vintage binoculars as a gift from my Grandpa, and I'd like some help identifying them, as in what year they are from, etc.

Here is what I know about the binoculars (I am not a collector or anything, so please forgive me if my terms are not exactly technical/accurate):

-They are collapsible and fold up

-The body is like a little silver case, with a blue rubbery coating all around for decoration

-There is a little wheel on top to adjust the vision

-On the part of the binoculars where you look into, there is a little plaque in between the lenses that says "Coated Lens" in gold script on a black background

-In between the lenses on the opposite side, there is another little plaque, this one gold, that reads "Chadwick" in black seriff writing

Other things of interest:

-There are no visible hinges; when pressed, the larger lenses (the ones you don't look through) just fold down and slide back

-The case itself is about 2 inches by 4.5 inches

Attached are some photos.

It would mean a lot to me if someone could help me figure this out, all my Grandpa knows is that it's "an antique," but we really don't know what decade.

Also, I have tried to search for the manufacturer "Chadwick," but I have had no luck. If anyone knows anything about such a manufacturer, information about that would be greatly appreciated as well!

Forum: Binocular Questions & Answers

WWII German Rangefinders

I recently came across a set of WWII German Rangefinders. The inscription on the side is

DF 10x80
CXN
72773
25828

All I have been able to find out is that they were manufactured by Emil Busch, Rathenow. The unique thing about these is that it appears to be a full set, still in the original case. I have the tripod, base which has degree measurements to indicate horizontal direction, the mount which has degree markings for elevation, the 'headrest', a battery box and a light (not sure where that goes) and another attachment that best description looks like an antenna, although it is probably for rough sighting in of the binoculars.

Can anyone steer me towards a reputable source that can tell me a little more about them and possibly value them?

Thanks in advance!

Forum: Binocular Questions & Answers

Zeiss binocular serial numbers

Can anybody out there tell me why a Carl Zeiss Jena Telact binocular in my possession has a serial no. with 4 digits when it ought to be 6 digits?
I know that Telact was current from 1907 to 1914 and that throughout this period the Jena factory issued binoculars with 6 digit serial nos. My Telact binocular is clearly marked CARL ZEISS JENA on the left-hand prism cover plate and TELACT 8043 on the right so apparently is a Jena product, but why the 4 digit serial no.?
I know that this binocular was sold new in London because it has an engraving NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA LONDON, and I wonder if, in spite of the JENA marking, it is in fact a product of the Carl Zeiss London operation which finished with the outbreak of WW1.
Thoughts and opinions welcomed!

Forum: Binocular Tech Support

Orion vibration pads

Hello again,

In what might be the silliest question of the day:

I have the Oberwerk surveyor tripod and notice the bottom of them are pointy...for obvious reasons. However, I'd prefer them not to dig into my new deck .

Would y'all happen to know if the Orion vibration suppression pads would be effective here--given the "points" on the Oberwerk, figured I'd ask first

Many thanks!

Forum: Binocular Questions & Answers
